ADLWPW AREA 1 – Overview and Learning Objectives

Area 1 Overview

In this section we are going to learn about how human beings take in, process, and store information. Additionally, we will explore some of the influences and filters that influence how the information is perceived differently by different individuals.

AREA LEARNING OBJECTIVE: The participant will evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of themselves and their organization on how individuals are taking in, processing, and storing information to include areas of high performance and identifying areas for improvement in a writing assignment shared with peers.

Lesson 1: Individual Differences

In lesson one, we will discuss

  • cognitive process
  • individuals as an open system
  • adult development theory
  • generational membership

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • LO1: Participants demonstrate an understanding of the differences between the three levels of the cognitive process through answering knowledge check questions.
  • LO2: Participants can demonstrate knowledge of the open system model by correctly sequencing the four components.
  • LO3: Participants can demonstrate knowledge of adult development theory by correctly identifying periods of stability and transition in a knowledge check question.
  • LO4: At the end of this lesson, participants will be able to identify how individual differences (including generational membership and adult development) are affecting their organizations through participation in a discussion question.

Lesson 2: Attribution & Biases

  • Attributions
  • Biases

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • LO1: Participants will be able to select the appropriate bias described in the material from a list and match it to a vignette describing the same type of behaviors.
  • LO2: Participants will be able to match each appropriate bias with the matching definition in a knowledge check question.
  • LO3: At the end of this lesson, participants will be able to identify how attributions and biases are affecting their personal leadership behaviors through participation in a discussion question.
