ADLWPW AREA 4 – Overview and Learning Objectives

Area 4 Overview

In this section we examine how the leader influences every part of the leadership equation. The base of power a leader exercises can greatly influence the type of reactions followers have to the direction the leader wants to go. The types of relationships and interactions a leader has with others in the organization can create transformational change or create favoritism that leads to the good old boy system. A leader should also understand the byproducts of stress on individuals (including the leader) in the organization and focus on the three most common types of counseling leaders engage in with their followers. When a leader has earned trust over time, they are more capable of influencing others to change in ways that benefit the follower and the organization.
